About SEPP Guard
Who operates SEPP Guard, how the calculation methodology is maintained and reviewed, and how the platform responds when IRS guidance or published tables change.
Operator
SEPP Guard is operated by Brainstorm Apps, LLC, the entity responsible for the platform, its content, and its legal notices. SEPP Guard is an educational calculation, verification, and documentation tool — not a registered investment adviser, and not tax, legal, accounting, or investment advice.

Editorial policy
Core SEPP calculations are produced by deterministic code using versioned regulatory data and exact published IRS and Treasury table values where applicable. Published table values are not estimated, interpolated, or generated by AI. AI-assisted features may help explain or extract information, but they do not independently determine finalized SEPP calculation amounts.
The methodology and authorities behind the calculations are documented on the Methodology and Sources pages.
Corrections and updates
Finalized calculations are preserved as historical records rather than silently recalculated when methodology changes. If a correction could affect a prior result, SEPP Guard creates a new version or revision so the earlier calculation remains identifiable.
Material methodology changes are documented and versioned. Methodology and educational pages carry a last technically reviewed date and are reviewed when relevant governing guidance changes.
How IRS rule changes are monitored
SEPP Guard maintains a versioned register of the authorities its calculations depend on, including life-expectancy and mortality tables, applicable interest-rate data, and governing IRS and Treasury guidance.
When a relevant source update is identified, it is reviewed before being incorporated into calculation logic. The current authority register is available on the Sources page.
Methodology transparency
The calculation methodology, source authorities, validation controls, and technical assumptions used by SEPP Guard are documented on the Methodology page.
SEPP Guard does not represent that its methodology has been independently certified or professionally attested unless a specific reviewer and scope of review are expressly identified.
About the builder
SEPP Guard was created by Doug Ring, a technology, operations, and business leader with more than 30 years of experience building, operating, and improving complex systems.
Doug spent nearly 27 years at AT&T in network engineering, operations, wireless, technology innovation, and leadership roles, and later served as Chief Information Officer for Mission Aviation Fellowship International, where his work included digital transformation, artificial intelligence, data integration, automation, and operational systems.
His background also includes entrepreneurship, software and web systems, and patented technology. Doug holds an MBA from The University of Texas at Dallas and a Bachelor of Business Management from LeTourneau University.
SEPP Guard grew out of the same approach Doug has used throughout his career: take a complicated system, trace it back to authoritative sources, make the logic reproducible, and build tools that help people understand what the system is actually doing.
SEPP Guard is an independent software project. Doug is not a CPA, Enrolled Agent, CFP® professional, tax attorney, or investment adviser. Neither Doug nor SEPP Guard provides tax, legal, accounting, or investment advice. SEPP Guard is designed to make published Rule 72(t) calculations easier to understand, reproduce, verify, and document while leaving tax conclusions and professional judgment with the user and their qualified advisers.
